Types of Water Pumps

A water pump is a machine that moves water from the source to discharge. These machines play a fundamental part in water systems to provide the needed water pressure in homes, buildings, or factories. These are the types of pumps that Eight Peaks Enterprises offer:

Jet Pumps

Jet pumps are types of pumps that move water from a source to the service.

  • Jet pump – Booster pump

The typical water pump, also called the booster pump, is the commonly used pump in homes or buildings. These pumps work like a fan with impeller inside to be able to maintain a certain water pressure and water flow within the water system. These pumps can be used to bring water from the NAWASA line to bathrooms and faucets that have low water pressure. Booster pumps are classified by their horsepower; your requirement of horsepower will depend on the number of bathrooms and kitchens in the house or building.

Benelli Booster Pump 0.5hp to 1hp
  • Jet pump – Shallow well pump

A shallow well pump is used to bring water from underground to the house or building. Typically, in the use of a shallow well pump, the underground water should be from 1 feet to 25 feet below the soil. These pumps are used in areas near a body of water.

  • Jet pump – Deep well pump

A submersible pump or a deep well pump is a more powerful pump that can also bring water from underground to the house or building. These pumps, as the name implies, are submersed in underground water that is 25 feet or more.

Other types of water pumps offered:

Centrifugal Pumps

Centrifugal pumps can also be used to supply water in homes and are often used when there is a cistern tank. These centrifugal pumps use a rotating impeller to force the water pressure in the system and to discharge water flow.

Jack Pump

Jack pumps can be used for deep well sources. These pumps are different from the submersible pump as they are placed on grade of the ground and are attached in the well pipe. These pumps are used so you would not need a hand pump when getting water.

Self-Priming Pump

Self-priming pumps eliminates the need to prime the pump. These are pumps that are capable of evacuating the air without the need of an external machine.  These pumps are mainly used when you want the pump placed above the level of liquid to be pumped.

Sump and Sewage Pump

Sump and sewage pumps are used when you want to remove flood water from a certain area. These are also used to discharge sewage tanks, septic tanks, or liquids with high viscosity.

Installing a Water Storage Tank System in your House

With the expected water shortages in Metro Manila, it is time to consider having back-up water aside from the usual water drums.  Installing a water storage tank system in your house will limit the disruption of water shortages.

Here are a few pointers we share with our clients.

How does a simple Water Storage Tank System work?

The water tank collects water from the main line while there is water supply.  Once the tank is full, it will stop collecting water.  When there is no water supply from the main line, the storage tank will provide water to the house until it is empty.

Basic parts of a simple water storage tank system

  • Water storage tank – collects the water
  • Float valve – controls the highest level of the tank. It avoids overflowing.
  • Pressure tank – installed if the water pressure from the storage tank needs to be amplified. A pressure tank always require a water pump.
  • Water pump – helps pump the water to houses.  Recommended for multi-level houses.

Choosing the Storage Tank System for your house

1. The storage tank size will depend on the needs of your household

Know how much water you need for the household.  We peg per person 40-50 gals daily consumption per person.  This may vary according to usage.

The standard Midland tank Sizes are 152 gals, 212 gals, 345 gals, 432 gals, and 518 gals.  We can also make custom tank sizes.  We can also help source other brands of tanks for you.

For a household of 5 people, we recommend installation of 212 gals and above.

2. Check the space available

Usually, water storage tanks are installed in the backyard or overhead.  It will depend on the space available in your property.

3. Installation

Be sure to have a plumber or technician to check the connections prior to installation.  Our team can inspect the site to recommend a system for you.   Check if you will need a pressure tank and a water pump for added water pressure.

4. Maintenance

If you don’t regularly use the water from the storage tank, we recommend flushing and draining every 2 months.

5. Subdivision rules and regulations- Does your area allow its use?

There are some subdivisions and villages that does not allow the use of water storage tanks.  Be sure to check the regulations in your area prior to installing a water storage tank system.

How to buy a power generator

1) Power needs

Know what appliances do you need to power this will determine the generator size you need

Running wattage – Here are the usual suspects: Refrigerator (600 watts), Microwave (1,500 watts), Several lights (400 watts), TV (200 watts), Computer (250 watts). Add all of the watts and this will give you the running wattage.

Starting wattage – Some appliances need additional power to start (ref, aircon, etc). Sometimes this is up to 3 times their running wattage. Get the highest number among all the appliances. This will be the required starting wattage.

Add up the running wattage and the maximum starting wattage. This will give you the required power you need.

2) Go to a reputable store/dealer to purchase a generator

Generator type

Two types for home installation:
1) Portable Generator – Portable generators are all about mobility. They deliver electricity in remote areas unplugged from the electrical grid.

2) Standby Generators – Standby generators are basically mini emergency power plants. These permanently mounted generators are commonly fueled by reliable natural gas or propane. The electricity is then routed into the home or business through an automatic transfer switch, which also automatically starts and stops the generator.

3) Installation/Usage

Do not attempt to connect the generator directly to your home’s circuits or wiring. Have an electrician install a transfer switch and plug the generator into this switch. This will keep the generator from feeding power back into the lines, which could put power company crews working on the lines at risk. This will also protect your generator and home wiring from damage when power is restored.
Be sure to not install the genrators near windows

4) Maintenance

Be sure that the generator is stored in a safe place.

Eight Peaks Enterprises sells generators. You can call us for any questions regarding generators.
